Happy Birthday, Sam I Am!

Today is the 50th birthday of the Dr. Seuss classic “Green Eggs and Ham” which is undoubtedly one of the most amazing literary masterpieces of all time. Seuss wrote the genius gem after his publisher bet him that he couldn’t write a book using only 50 words. A fine 5o words they are!

Dr. Seuss was a true poet and a gentleman of letters. He was a master of surrealism and a great hero of mine.

I could not, would not, in a house.
I would not, could not, with a mouse.
I would not eat them with a fox.
I would not eat them in a box.
I would not eat them here or there.
I would not eat them anywhere.
I would not eat green eggs and ham.
I do not like them, Sam-I-am.

I’ll be celebrating the book’s birthday by introducing it to my niece — Thing 2 — for the first time! She’s nearly 2 and it’s high time she fell in love with Seuss. I’m sure we’ll read it about 50 times.

50 words, 50 times, 50 years.

Maybe I’ll be a real go-getter and whip up a batch of green-egg cookies … mine will be like these:

Rather than like these fancy-schmancy hams. Hey, I’m not that ambitious!

I gotta save my energy for repeated animated readings. My niece refuses to let others read to her, claiming they don’t do it right. Naturally this is an enormous source of pride for this book-worm Aunty.

Enjoy this book’s birthday, y’all! Maybe a ham & spinach omelet for dinner??

Green Eggs and Ham is available on amazon!

A girl who loves Seuss is the girl for me. Damn you’re so soulful and sexy…

  3. Oh My, Robot, you have a bit of competition it seems, with Lovestruck, no worries though Alphabetfiend is a one man woman, I’m sure.

I love Seuss too, and have an early print of “Green Eggs & Ham”, luckily.
    Peace.
    Alice

Oh my Lovestruck, I bet you say that to all the seuss-touched ladies!

No, I kid. Thank you for both of your flirtatious comments. Very sweet. And I LOVE the Doors btw. Jim Morrison is one of my favorite poets. For real. Ask any one of my friends! I’m fond of one in particular and plan to have it tattooed on my arm bone as soon as I can bear the bony pain. Ouch! But boy o boy it’ll look great when it’s done.

Lipstick Shamaness is batting her fox-fur eyelashes, loving the Doors serenade. Thanks for the happy birthday wishes. (I’ll reply to that comment too, on that page, but not tonight because it is rainy and rain makes me lazy.)

I’m never one to discourage flirtation and luckily my Robot gets this but at the end of the day I must say that Alice is right — my heart is afraid of words like cardiac infarction and so it refuses to fraction except for friendly kinds of love of course.

But I got plenty of that to go around, that love outside of the Robot lockdown.

    Just ask alice!

Go ask Alice! What the doormouse said! Feed yer head!

Couldn’t resist a classic rock serenade of my own. I love Grace Slick hollering about wonderland. As a kid — hell, still — I thought (think) that “Feed your head!” means “Read some books!” I am the Alphabetfiend after all so I fiend for words instead of drugs.
